"Just Call Me Mike"
People are hungry for straight-forward talk and Mike delivers just that from his passion to bring honesty, justice, and basic decency back into human rights, and on a global scale. We can thank a sweetly persistent friend for badgering Mike into writing this book, he was more than reluctant yet found the journey to actor and activist became the journey of becoming a human being. Once a marine always a marine? "Yeah you hear the same thing about being a Catholic and I was once one of those too!" His 8 years with M*A*S*H and how it worked so well. Now he's on a book tour and signing throughout the US, he's humble about the impact he is making and we suspect it is quite profound. There has been progress, over 200 innocent people released from jail and only a few were on death row. Surprisingly Mike does not think the DNA science releasing people today is helping to keep innocent people from continuing to go jail. Is there profit involved? "We have more people in prisons in this country than any other country in the world and when you consider the fact we consider ourselves the land of the free and the home of the brave that hardly makes sense. I think there is a great deal to do with profit motive, with private prisons it now becomes a real economic issue." He understands why people are for the death penalty, there are many issues and one problem is the complexity of the systems. An amazing story of the founder of the worldwide 'Crips' gang, whose good was as powerful as his evil after a profound conversion in prison... ultimately and ironically, executed for murders he probably didn't commit ...a commute was not politically correct. What about juveniles being charged as adults? "Children are our future, they are not inherently bad, we need to be much more embracing, there are no role models and that is confusing for young people." On a lighter note he and his wife of 24 years love road trips, and his meditation is being the stranger drifting into town on his horse, er, rather his BMW motorcycle.

Mike Farrell, author of "Just Call Me Mike: A Journey to Actor and Activist", is probably best known for playing Captain B.J. Hunnicutt in the ever popular series M*A*S*H, where he both wrote and directed several episodes, earning him nominations for Director's Guild and Emmy Awards. He continues to produce --with partner Marvin Minoff he formed "Farrell/Minoff productions." Their first production was "Dominick and Eugene," several TV movies, and "Patch Adams" starring Robin Williams.
